Trainee / Apprentice Floor Layer
Overview
In the early days of your flooring career you will be expected to learn the ropes of the business and the variety of flooring tasks carried out. The more experienced you are, the more responsibilities and tasks you will gain.
Initially the job will consist initially of fetching, carrying and tidying materials together with uplifting and disposing of old / existing flooring, whilst observing and assisting senior fitters installing flooring. The first skills you will learn will be sub floor preparation to include fitting and installing plywood, smoothing compounds, DPM’s and primers and installing gripper rods and underlay.
Once you have become proficient in the basic tasks you will start to learn more about the materials and floorcoverings used and how to install them. We deal with all types of flooring and you will be trained to install carpets, both traditional and direct stick installation, naturals, flatweaves, vinyl, LVT (luxury vinyl tiles) and solid and engineered wood as well as all types of commercial flooring, safety flooring, coving and capping, welding and also hygienic wall cladding.
You will be required to take instruction from the Senior Fitters and work closely with them to gain as much experience and knowledge as possible throughout the early days of your flooring career. You will have one to one support which will give you a head start in the industry.
Mainly you will be working in customers’ homes so you will need to be polite and well-mannered with a “can do” attitude
